About the project

A misunderstanding over just 300 euros turns into chaos in BILLIE, a film about two mothers and best friends who find themselves trapped inside a bank and wrongly identified as robbers. As police begin to close in, their only way out lies in their deep trust in each other—and a willingness to embrace the unpredictable.

Written and directed by Sheri Hagen, the film presents a layered narrative that tackles domestic violence, female friendship, and the struggle to maintain dignity in difficult situations. By weaving humor into moments of pain, it emphasizes how survival and absurdity often go hand in hand. The film also stands as a strong statement on solidarity and adds an important, diverse perspective to German cinema.

Reflecting both vulnerability and underlying tension, Pentagram’s Berlin office created a visual identity where the name BILLIE appears in bold pink lettering, with the shape of a gun cut out from the type. This design echoes the film’s premise—how a simple call for help can quickly escalate into an unintended hostage situation. The still used across posters and promotional materials was captured by Hardy Brackmann.

The film has already been presented at Filmfest Hamburg 2025, the FrauenWelten Film Festival, and the Pan African Film & Arts Festival 2026.
